Welcome to the Boundary Tenants and Residents Association
The Boundary TRA was founded in 2021 in response to huge concerns about the Shoreditch Night Time Economy and its impact on estate residents. Key issues ranged from alcohol-related ASB, partying until dawn in Boundary Gardens, public urination, car bars, violence and sex crimes, drug dealing turf wars. These events prompted residents to organise collectively, forming the TRA to advocate for safety, accountability, and a stronger voice in local decision-making.
The BTRA is run entirely by unpaid, volunteer residents. Anyone can get more involved by joining the committee and attending meetings.
A founding role of the TRA is to provide support and voice concerns where the impact of licensing and planning decisions are impacting the wellbeing of our residents or may do so in the future.
What we do -
connect residents with each other by organising meetings and events;
maintain a Whatsapp group and mailing list of residents;
amplify residents concerns over issues affecting the estate;
engage with the council officers on matters that concern the estate such as repairs, waste management, major works, estate improvements;
represent residents concerns in licensing, planning, local policing, public safety and other matters where decisions risk negatively impacting the estate.
A founding role of the TRA is to provide support and voice concerns where the impact of licensing and planning decisions are impacting the wellbeing of our residents or may do so in the future. While we acknowledge that some recent residents have moved here to be near the ‘vibrancy’ of Shoreditch and its night time economy, we ask everyone to be mindful that many residents have lived on the estate for generations. Half of the homes are council tenancies. Many house large families with young children living in crowded conditions who lack the ability or choice to move elsewhere. We aim to foster a community where all residents—long-standing and new—feel heard and supported, while we do and always will have a special focus on the vulnerable and marginalised.
The affiliated Boundary Estate Conservation Group focuses on heritage and conservation issues. The estate is a historically important designated Conservation Area and all of its buildings are Grade II listed. The Boundary TRA and Conservation Group endeavours to make representations to the council over any decision, or lack of decision, that may negatively impact the estate’s heritage status.
